Alana Abbott has over 25 years of experience in strategic management largely within the not-for- profit sector. With Plaid she specializes in staffing and executive recruitment and strategic planning. A native of Canada, Alana’s formal education is in the fields of economics, anthropology and law in both Canada and England. Her background has prepared her for a career helping to shape and develop not for profits, charities and government agencies.
Alana has worked with the US Public Interest Research Group (US PIRG) where she served as Director (Santa Barbara, California). An internal promotion took her to Massachusetts where she worked on the campuses of Mount Holyoke and Smith colleges.
She then accepted a role with The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) in London, England. After eight years with this organization, and post a period in Australia, she returned to the UK and created and led a startup charity for adults with learning difficulties; ‘Opportunities Without Limits’ (OWL). Following the success of this project Alana was asked to refine this business model for replication across the country.
Alana’s consultancy projects have included writing the Joint Investment Plan for Adults with learning difficulties in Cambridgeshire. This plan combined the resources of the state sponsored National Health Service, Social Services, Rehabilitation, Hospital, Charities, recipients and Cambridgeshire businesses’ in order to provide the best experience for adults with learning difficulties. In addition, Alana also worked with cross departmental services and programs.
