Mike joined the Plaid team in 2018 and has extensive experience in investigations as a Federal Agent and Private Investigator/Security Consultant. With the rise in high-profile security incidents in recent years, it’s important for organizations to have tools to ensure safety. He provides consulting and hiring tools to ensure the most qualified staffing and volunteer talent with background checks, drug testing and sex-offender registry checks. Mike also provides training on Active Shooter situations and ways to enhance or harden security at meetings.
Mike began his law enforcement career as a Police Officer before transitioning as a Federal Agent. He spent the majority of his career as a Senior Special Agent with the US Justice Department’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF). Because of its mission, ATF is involved in some of the highest profile and most dangerous operations in law enforcement. In addition to conducting complex investigations, Mike also specialized in explosives and arson investigations. Mike received extensive tactical training and experience as a member of ATF’s Special Response Team and was involved in several of law enforcement’s most well-known operations including the Rodney King riots in Los Angeles, California; the standoff of white supremist Randy Weaver at Ruby Ridge, Idaho after the death of a Deputy US Marshal; the bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma by domestic terrorist Timothy McVeigh; and the raid on the Branch Davidian compound and David Koresh in Waco, Texas. Mike is currently a licensed investigator involved in standard investigative activities such as witness interviews and surveillance. In addition, he speaks before groups on various security topics such as Active Shooters. He also performs security assessments for active shooter scenarios and safety concerns at hotel meetings and headquarter locations.
Mike attended Stephen F Austin University and graduated with a BBA in Business. As an undergraduate he joined Kappa Alpha Order and became the parliamentarian, rush chairman, vice-president and president of his chapter. After graduation, and while working as a police officer in Arlington, TX, he returned to school and received a 2nd BBA in Accounting from the University of Texas at Arlington. Mike has been a long-term volunteer for KA and served as a Regional Advisor, member of the Executive Council, National Vice President and National President (Knight Commander). He is still actively involved as a volunteer and is the honorary dean of the chapter President’s annual leadership school.
Mike is active in his community and serves as a Trustee of the Arlington Police Foundation. He is married to his lovely wife Donna. They have one son Chris, an Air Force fighter pilot, and three grandchildren.
